Interesting / Boring / Fascinating

By D. M. Kemp

I was created tuned in to this book after I heard one in all the authors offer an interview. several of the topics within the interview weren't within the book, however a number of alternative areas where. The book is straightforward to scan and well researched. However, it's noticeably written from a British purpose of read - therefore do not let the Americanized title of Soccernomics fool you. It mainly seems to be a book that hopes to clarify to the English that they're not the foremost rabid fans nor the most effective players of the sport they invented a hundred and fifty years ago.

Some of the chapters were therefore completely fascinating, i could not stop reading. alternative chapters were therefore ultimately boring that I skipped them. the great issue is that you simply will skip around and skim every chapter independently while not extremely losing any overall scope of the book.

Even though I did not trust some the conclusions and skim the information differently, I actually feel rather more knowledgeable regarding the present game and the way we have a tendency to arrived. If you're an admirer of soccer, you must seriously contemplate this fact-filled book. it'll build for nice discussions round the TV throughout next summer's World Cup.

A heap of fluff, nevertheless you've got to browse it

By normal Poodle

A hard one! There actually don't seem to be plenty books out on the Rays, and any intelligent baseball book is well value a browse. However, as well-intentioned as this work is, and therefore the incontrovertible fact that if you're a baseball fan you're certain to browse it, I cannot provides it an excellent review. Here are some points:

First, there extremely isn't a lot of there. It looks like it'd are an improved magazine article. there's significant repetition that's not extremely required.

There are not any attention-grabbing secrets, no revelations, not even a true plan of how the team works.

Tropicana Field is heavily featured; the overall discussion of stadium building is attention-grabbing however what percentage times will the author complain regarding the Trop? extremely, i feel a reader would "get it" early within the book.

The history of the team is attention-grabbing - maybe a history of the Rays would be an improved work.

Inevitably, this can be compared to Moneyball. Face it, the author's premise/thesis is meant to attractiveness to fans of that job. However, this work is nowhere nearly as concerned, or as attention-grabbing as Moneyball.

You do not get plenty of player info; additional of this could bring the story to life. Yes, there are some anecdotes, notably re: Garza and Longoria however not enough to actually get a plan of the management mindset.

Overall, I don't regret shopping for this, and don't wish to dissuade you, however it may have extremely been one thing nice. I feel that an excellent book might be written regarding this team, however this can be not it. within the meantime, this can ought to do.
